Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, please complete the immigration formalities and then proceed to Thimphu. Once you have checked into your hotel, you can embark on a panoramic sightseeing tour of the capital city of Bhutan. The tour will cover several points of interest, including the Memorial Chorten, Kuensel Phodrang (home to the world's largest sitting Buddha statue), the Takin Reserve & Mini Zoo, and the BBS Tower (which provides a breathtaking view of the Thimpu Valley). After a day of exploration, you can enjoy an overnight stay in Thimphu. |
After breakfast, embark on a full-day sightseeing tour of Thimphu. Places of interest include the Folk Heritage Museum, Royal Textile Academy & Museum, Anim Dratshang (Nunnery), Trashichhodzong - Fortress in Thimphu, and Handicrafts Emporium. Stay overnight in Thimphu. |
After having breakfast, you can drive to Punakha by crossing Dochu La. Dochula is a beautiful location situated at an altitude of 3,088m/ 10,130 ft and is adorned with chorten, mani wall, and prayer flags. This highest point on the road offers a picturesque view of the following peaks, if the skies are clear, in the order from left to right: Masagang (7,158m), Tsendagang (6,960m), Terigang (7,060m), Jejegangphugang (7,158 m), Kangphugang (7,170 m), Zongphugang (7,060 m), a table mountain that dominates the isolated region of Lunana, and finally Gangkar puensum, which is the highest peak in Bhutan, standing tall at 7,497m. After breakfast, visit Punakha Dzong or (Palace of Great Happiness), built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, at the junction of the Phochu and Mochu rivers. This majestic dzong served as both the religious and the administrative center of Bhutan in the past. It measures some 600 by 240 feet and has a six-story, gold-domed tower. Inside are courtyards and religious statuary that hint at the depth of history and spiritual tradition embodied here, later visit Punakha Suspension Bridge and Chimi Lhakhang famously known as the temple of fertility. After having breakfast, you will be required to check out of your hotel and proceed to Paro. The Paro valley stretches from the confluence of the Paro Chhu and the Wang Chhu rivers at Chuzom, up to Mt. Jomolhari, which is located on the Tibetan border to the North. This picturesque region is one of the widest valleys in the kingdom and is covered in fertile rice fields. It also has a beautiful, crystalline river that meanders down the valley. Once you have checked into your hotel, you will proceed for a sightseeing tour of Paro, which would include visiting the following places: Drukgyel Dzong - ruins of an old fortress in Paro, Kyichu Lakhang - a famous monastery in Paro, and Ta Dzong - the National Museum of Bhutan. You will spend the night in Paro. |
After breakfast embarks on an interesting excursion to Taktshang Monastery (approx 5 hours round trip walk). It is one of the most famousof Bhutan’s monasteries, perched on the side of a cliff 900m above the Paro valley floor. Legends say that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery and hence it is called ‘Tiger’s Nest’. This site has been recognized as a most sacred place and visited by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646 and now visited by all Bhutanese at least once in their lifetime. |
After having breakfast, you can take an optional day excursion to Chele La pass, which is the highest motorable point in Bhutan at 12,200ft. On a clear day, you can enjoy the breathtaking view of Mt. Jhomolhari, which is the second-highest peak of Bhutan at 23,996ft, along with other Himalayan giants. Later in the evening, you may visit the Paro handicraft market. |
